Description
I'm offering these 3 Cosmopolitan sales brochures together as a group. FirstI have an original 2 sided 1 sheet black & white sales brochure showing the Cosmopolitan Motors full line of Italian made motorcycles and scooters in 1965. The Parilla factory offerings were the 250 Scrambler, 250 Tourist, 100cc Olimpia, & the 125 Scrambler. From Capriolo, the 75cc Antelope. From Bianchi, the 75cc Guardian. From Capri, the 100cc scooter. Those were on the one side. The other side is all Benelli. On it, the 200cc Sprite, 125cc Cobra, Sprite 125 (egg motor), 48cc Fireball, and the 125cc Monaco scooter. In 1965 during their heyday, Cosmopolitan Motors was located at 5521 Wayne Ave in Philadelphia. Later they moved to Hatboro.
Second is an original 2 sided 1 sheet black & white road test & sales brochure showing the Cosmopolitan Motors Capriolo 125 Italian made motorcycle. This reprint of a Cycle World road test was used by Cosmopolitan Motors as a sales tool to sell new Capriolo 125cc motorcycles, probably after the Capriolo factory shut down and Cosmopolitan Motors took ownership of all the parts, bikes, drawings, and intellectual property. This road test, besides having nice black & white photos of the bike useful to a restorer, describes the overhead camshaft engine design and gives engine specifications. This motorcycle was built by Stablimenti Aero-Caproni, an aviation firm like MV Agusta, and was previously known as a Caproni.
Third is an article that was reprinted by Cosmopolitan Motors in 1965 as part of their press kit for new dealers. It was first published in the December 1964
English magazine The Scooter with Power and Pedal. It details a trip to Italy taken by 3 English journalists and executives from the UK importer Europa Imports LTD and Larry Wise (US importer Cosmopolitan Motors) to the Benelli-Motobi factory in Italy to preview and test ride the full range of 32 models of Benelli motorcycles and scooters between 50 and 250 cc before the upcoming Earl's Court Show in England. The article was written by the editor of the magazine, although he isn't named, nor is the article extremely technical in nature. It does tell a bit of the Benelli brothers history starting in the 2 wheeler business in 1911 and by that time they were a half century in the motorcycle business. There's 2 pictures of Tarquino Provini World Champion rider of the 250 4 cylinder Benelli. 2 photos of Larry Wise & Marco Benelli watching a 125 cc upright motor scrambler tested on a hill. These journalists were most impressed with the Motobi power ascending hills, even if they were riding an a fifty cc. One picture of the inside of the factory showing the bikes on the assembly line. The funniest English quip from the article: Testing is an important part of the production schedule. Behind the works is a banked track where every machine that comes off the line, from the cheapest moped upwards, is tested whatever the weather. That, Mr. dealer, is why you sometimes complain that the tyres of your Motobi machines are soiled!
